Chat rooms
Finding and joining rooms, book rooms, and what you can do in a room chat.
Chat rooms are groups where many people talk together around a topic or a book. Rooms you've joined sit in the circle strip at the top of the Messages screen.
Finding and joining a room
- In the room strip at the top of Messages, tap Show All or go to Discover chat rooms.
- Use Search rooms or browse the suggested rooms.
- Open a room and tap Join group. In approval rooms you'll see Send join request instead; you join once an admin approves.
- Open room: anyone can find and join it. If the admin allows it, you can read the chat before joining.
- Private room: only invited people can join.
- A room can have up to 100 members.
Book rooms
The Chat room button on a book's page opens that book's room; each book has a single room. If there isn't one yet, you can start it with Open a chat room. The book's author can choose who may open the room, or turn it off.
What you can do in a room
- Send text, photos and GIFs (text only if the admin turned photos off).
- Reply to messages, react, edit your own messages and translate messages.
- Small photos of the people who've seen the latest message appear under it; press and hold a message to see the full list.
- Tap a pinned message to jump to it, and use Search messages to find older ones.
- Use Hide this person to hide someone just for yourself.
- Turn off room alerts with Mute notifications, and Leave group whenever you like.
