Editing your profile
Change your photo, cover, name, username, bio and social links from Settings.
Your details live on two screens: what people see on your profile is in Settings › Profile, and your account details are in Settings › Account. When you change something, a Save button appears in the top right.
Settings › Profile
- Profile photo: use Change photo to pick and crop one from your gallery, or Remove photo to delete it.
- Cover photo: the wide image at the top of your profile.
- First and last name
- Bio: up to 150 characters.
- Social links: for Instagram, X and TikTok, just enter your username and the app builds the link. Add your own address in the Website field. Clear a field and save to remove that link from your profile.
Settings › Account
- Username: 3–20 characters using lowercase letters, numbers and underscores. After you change your username, you can't change it again for 15 days; the screen shows when you can. There's no wait the first time you replace the temporary username given to you at Google sign-up.
- Email: see Changing your email address.
- Phone: see Phone number and SMS verification.
- Date of birth: if it's empty, you can add it here. Once saved, it can't be changed.
Good to know
- When you change your name or photo, your older posts and comments show the new version too. This can take a few minutes.
- If you try to leave without saving, you'll be warned that your changes will be lost.
- To fill in missing details step by step, see Completing your profile.
