Inline comments and reactions
Select a sentence to comment on it, react with an emoji, share it or send it to a friend.
When a line hits you, you don't have to wait for the end of the chapter. You can comment directly on any line in the text.
Selecting text
- While reading, press and hold a word and drag to extend the selection.
- A bar appears at the bottom: Comment, React, Share and Send.
- Comment: write a comment on the selected line. It stays attached to that paragraph.
- React: leave an emoji (like ❤️, 👍 or 😂). Tap the same emoji again to remove it.
- Share: make a quote card from the selected text. See Quote cards.
- Send: send the quote as a message to people you follow mutually.
Seeing other readers' comments
Along the right edge of the screen, an orange message icon with a count appears next to paragraphs that have comments. Tap it to open Inline Comments: the quoted line, reactions and comments. On paragraphs without comments, a faint plus sign appears once you stop scrolling; tap it to write the first one.
Replies
You can answer inline comments with Reply. The commenter gets a notification, and tapping it takes them straight to that line.
Good to know
- You need to be signed in to comment or react.
- You can delete your own comments, and authors can delete comments on their books.
- If the author later rewrites a chapter heavily, some inline comments may no longer show at the edge, but they stay in the book page's comment list with their quote.
- You can't comment on books by a writer who has blocked you.
