Automatic drafts and restoring a backup
Your writing is saved every few seconds; edits to a published chapter are backed up separately.
Forgetting to tap Save while writing doesn't cost you anything. The editor saves your work on its own.
How it works
- About 5 seconds after you stop typing, the text is saved. It's also saved right away when you send the app to the background.
- The status next to the word count reads Saving…, Draft saved or, without a connection, Couldn't save, will retry.
- A new chapter becomes a draft on its first save. If you haven't written a title, it's stored as Untitled Chapter.
Editing a published chapter
When you edit a chapter readers can already see, half-finished changes shouldn't reach them, so autosave writes to a backup instead of the chapter. You'll see Changes backed up. To send your changes to readers, choose Save changes when you leave.
Restoring a backup
- Reopen a published chapter you left without saving (or where the app closed).
- The Unsaved changes window appears.
- Tap Restore to continue where you left off, or Delete backup to discard the changes.
Leaving a chapter
Pressing back opens Leaving the chapter. For a draft you get Save as Draft, Publish and Keep writing; for a published chapter, Save changes, Leave without saving and Keep writing.
Chapters are saved to your account, so saving needs an internet connection. If you see "couldn't save", don't close the app; it retries once you're back online.
