Genres and tags
You can pick up to 5 genres and 10 tags; tags are short searchable words.
Genres and tags help your book reach the right readers, and they do different jobs.
Genres
Genres come from a fixed list (romance, thriller, fantasy, science fiction, horror, fan fiction and many more). Each book needs at least 1 and at most 5 genres. Genre pages in Explore and recommendations are based on this choice, so pick the genres that truly describe your book.
Tags
Tags are short words you type yourself, such as mafia, texting or slow burn. Readers can find your book by searching #tag or by tapping popular tags in Explore.
- A book can have up to 10 tags.
- Type a tag and press Enter, or choose from the Suggested list.
- Tags are tidied automatically: a leading # is removed, letters become lowercase and spaces turn into hyphens ("Slow Burn" becomes slow-burn). A tag can be up to 24 characters.
Changing them later
You can change genres and tags at any time on the book management screen (the Genres and Tags rows). Remember to tap Save afterwards.
