Content warnings and 18+
Add warnings when your book has sensitive content; readers are asked to confirm their age for 18+ books.
Content warnings let readers know what they'll find before they open a book. It's respectful to readers, and it keeps the wrong readers from opening your book and leaving a bad review.
Warning types
- 18+ Content
- Sensitive Content
- Violence
- Horror
- Negative Behavior Example
How to add them
When you publish a chapter, the Publishing Settings screen opens. Tick the ones that apply under Content Warnings. They appear as labels on the book page.
Books marked 18+
- The cover is blurred with an 18+ badge in Explore and lists.
- Readers are asked to confirm they're over 18 before opening the book. The confirmation is asked separately for each book.
- 18+ books aren't listed on the public web pages that search engines show.
When to use them
Add a warning for explicit sexual content, heavy violence or disturbing themes. When in doubt, adding one is better than leaving it out. Publishing content that needs a warning without one goes against the content rules, and the content may be reviewed.
Some content can't be published even with a warning (for example, sexual content involving minors). The community guidelines explain what isn't allowed at all.
