The chapter editor: formatting and word count
Bold, italics, alignment, fonts, inline images and a word counter that shows chapter length.
The chapter editor lets you shape your text the way readers will see it. The chapter title sits at the top, with the text area below.
Formatting tools
- Bold and italics: select text first, then tap the toolbar button.
- Alignment: left, center, right or justified. Alignment applies to the whole paragraph.
- Font: Default, Serif or Monospace.
- Image: inserts an image after the paragraph where your cursor is. See chapter covers and images.
Top bar
- The music note icon adds a song to the chapter (see adding music).
- Preview shows the chapter as readers will see it.
- Options holds publishing, saving as a draft, AI spelling correction, the chapter cover, the poll and (when available) the chapter price.
Word count
Below the text you'll see the chapter's word count and a colored length label:
- Under 250: Very short
- 250–499: Short
- 500–1,000: Medium
- 1,001–2,000: Good
- Over 2,000: Long
It's only a guide; you can publish a chapter of any length. The cloud icon next to the counter shows the save status (see automatic drafts).
Formatting in text you paste from elsewhere may not carry over. Check the preview after pasting.
